Start a Juicing Club!
Over the past few years (well as far as I know) juicing fresh fruits and vegetables has become more popular. Juicing provides a quick way to get an abundant amount of nutrients all at one time. I personally do not have as much free time as cows do to graze all day long….would be nice, but not practical. Eating 2 bunches of kale ~ 1 bunch of cilantro ~ 1 bunch of parsley ~1 bunch of carrot tops ~ 2 cups of: goji berries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cucumber, apples, kiwi, peaches, coconut meat, and pears ~ a whole pineapple ~ half of a watermelon ~ 2 red, yellow or orange bell peppers ~ 1 bunch of beets ~ 1 bunch of celery ~ 6 plums ~ 2 papayas ~ 5 tomatoes ~1 bunch of bananas ~ 3 avocados ~ 1 bunch of collard greens….is a LOT of food to consume in one day and a lot chewing. I bet you didn’t even finish reading that list ‘cause it was too gosh darn long! You’ll have a super strong jaw by the time you finish chewing all that food….no need for that 2 Hp VitaMix now! Anyway, my point is….consuming that amount of raw food will surly put your body in a blissful state resembling being one with the Creator before you incarnated in this 3D or 4D…wait almost 5D state. BUT it would literally take you HOURS to properly chew and consume all of that fresh raw goodness. SOOO juicing the fruits and veggies is a wonderful alternative to old fashion chewing.
Ok, human and womb-carriers actually were not designed to eat the fruits of the earth.
They lived off of the fresh clean air. Look it up!
Ok…back to juicing. What is juicing? The process of juicing requires a machine to separate the water content (that holds the bulk of the nutrients) from the fiber part of fruits or vegetables. Of course, the fibrous part of the fruit or vegetable is the part that needs to be broken down before it is consumed, hence the old fashion chewing method. By breaking the cell walls of the food you are releasing the water, enzymes, phytonutrients, amino acids, minerals and vitamins stored in the flesh of the food. Using the old fashion chewing method, the fiber of the food will also be swallowed and will take hours for your body to separate the nutrients from the fiber and digest the fibrous parts of the plant. Now, of course fiber is an important part of your diet (nowadays) so I’m not bashing the consumption of fiber….I love fiber, sweeps my colon nice and clean! ….but, not a lot is needed when doing a juice fast. Fresh pressed juice is virtually fiber free and will be immediately absorbed into the bloodstream. There you go, juicing in a nutshell.
Juicing is great for people who need a large dose of plant based vitamins and minerals frequently, for purposes of healing from dis-ease. There are several companies that offer fresh pressed juice for detoxing and nourishing the body:
Humbly, Peax & Love (local DMV)
Khepra’s Raw Food and Juice Bar (local DMV)
Puree Artisan Juice Bar (local DMV)
…to name a few. I have been a customer at all 4 places and will continue to support these businesses….especially the local ones. A cleanse from those companies can start at about $120.00 (Humbly, Peax & Love’s price) for a 3 day cleanse consisting of 3-6 different juices per day. Some companies will charge around $330.00 for a 5 day cleanse…understandably so, buying the produce, bottles, labels, machines, labor, and other expenses will surly add up. Soo this is where my semi-brilliant idea comes in….Start a Juice Club!!!!
As you may know by now, I’m a numbers gal…if you don’t know, I’m a numbers gal! So, I’ll crunch some numbers for you during and after I present “The Concept”.
“The Concept” – in my most official sounding voice after I’ve cleared my throat:
The Juicing Club will consist of you and some of your closest friends, who will meet once every month, 3 months, or 6 months, whatever suits the group, to…you guessed it…juice! Ideally 2-3 people will have a Vita-Mix or hydraulic press to bring to the host’s house. These are my recommendations on getting started:
~ Before you start your juice cleanse, eat light 2-3 days before you start the fast. That means no meat, refined: grains or sugar, eggs, milk, pizza, ice cream, excessive amounts of nuts, coffee, soda, fast food…basically no junk food and lots of fresh raw foods…become a healthy vegan during the 3 days before your fast… eat salads, smoothies, fresh fruit, seeds, lots of water, and herbs.
~ Before the official start date, you should purchase 6 16oz glass or BPA free plastic bottles and 6 54-64oz glass or BPA free plastic jugs. The 16oz bottles will be for you to hold each day’s portion and tote it along if you need to. The large jugs will be used to store 3-4 days worth of juice. These items will cost you about $50.00 from www.specialtybottle.com .
~ Make friends with people who have a Vita-Mix or a hydraulic juice press….since these will yield juice that can be stored in your refrigerator for 3-6 days. I’m kidding about the making friends just because they have a Vita-Mix or hydraulic juice press …kinda lol. Really, it is best to use either a Vita-Mix or a hydraulic juice press when making juice that will not be consumed immediately. Of course with a Vita-Mix you will have to use a cheese cloth or nut-milk bag to manually separate the pulp from the juice. I prefer the Vita-Mix method 1) ‘cause I have one! 2) ‘cause I know people who have one! and 3) ‘cause I can get really intimate with my juice as I’m squeezing and tuggin on the bag letting the juice run down my hands into the container…mmm, pouring all of my love, gratitude and healing intentions into each drop over and over and over again until all that’s left are the dry fibers from the fruit and/or vegetable! Imagine how powerful that juice is now! Here is a little info on hydraulic juice presses to get you started. In my imaginary juice club (based on really people that I know) there would be 2 Vita-Mix blenders being used and 1 hydraulic juice press.
~ Plan out what fruits and vegetables will be used for each juice. For example, you are planning a 3 day juice cleanse with 6 different juices and each type of juice has 1-3 ingredients. That equals up to 18 different types of fruits and vegetables. Say there are 10 people in your juice club (that number is based on my imaginary juice club that is based on real people that I know); each person will buy 2 items from the list. Yes, I did the math…it actually works out to be 1.8…but work with me here! The 10th person can buy extra of any 2 items on the list. Let’s pretend that Kale and Celery are 2 items on the list…and you picked those items to buy. Organic Kale is about $3 a bunch and Celery is about the same….10 bunches of each will be about $60. Let’s look at more expensive ingredients…like strawberries and goji berries. During peak season, 1lb of strawberries will cost about $4 and 1lb of goji berries will be about $12. So…each person will be allotted 1/2 lb of strawberries and 1 cup of goji berries. That adds up to be $20 for 5 pounds of strawberries and $48 for 4 bags of goji berries for a total of $68.
~ Get to juicing!! Toss your distilled or alkaline water, fruits, vegetables, and 3-6 ice cubes (to prevent over-heating) into the Vita-Mix and turn that thang on. Blend until it has the consistency of a very watery smoothie, add more water if needed. Place the cheese cloth or nut-milk bag over a container and pour the blended juice into the bag or cloth. Gently squeeze the bag until all the liquid is strained. Repeat until you are done!!!
~ Please, please, please break your fast with light foods like…. fresh fruit smoothies, soup, fresh fruits and vegetables. I made the mistake of breaking my fast with some nuts, WORST PAIN EVER!!!! I felt like I was giving birth to a big-headed 2 yr old!! Just don’t do it.
Being a member of a juicing club is great for those of you who do not have access to a company that will do the juicing for you. Even if there is a company nearby, you may not be able to afford $120-$330 per month and $50-$70 per month fits into your budget better. Being a member of a juicing club also gives you a chance to hang out with like minded people who give off positive vibes and can offer support during the cleanse, especially if you are new to fasting for 3 or more days.
Total Cost for the 1st juicing: $110….$50 for bottles & $60 for 10 bunches of Kale and Celery
Total Cost per month: $60-$70 vs. $120 (if you are lucky enough to find an awesome company that offers a GREAT deal!)
Happy Juicing Y’all! Peace and Love!!
